I designed and taught a compressed five-week, online upper-division course surveying major approaches to the study of meaning. The course used weekly readings in place of a textbook, alongside lectures, worksheets, homework and a cumulative final exam.
- Scaffolded assessment so that completion-graded worksheets gave students low-stakes practice on new language data before graded homework on similar problem sets
- Designed assessments robust to generative AI, including a final exam built on novel datasets not available online, and homework requiring students to show and reflect on their reasoning
- Built collaborative learning into weekly discussion forums, where students named their ‘weak point’ for the week and helped one another work through it
